Kangaroo Valley, a cozy village located in New South Wales and a 2 hour drive from Sydney and Canberra. We accidentally discovered this special village during our Cairns to Melbourne trip in 2016. Kangaroo Valley is a nice stop, especially if you come from a vibrant city like Sydney. Discover now what this New South Wales village has to offer you.
Historic village
When entering the village you drive over the famous and historic Hampden Bridge. A heritage listed single span suspension bridge spanning Moss Vale Road over the Kangaroo Rive.
The main street consists wonderful historic houses and shops. Every building has his own country charm and own colors. Cozy tea rooms, a heritage-listed pub, a historic post office and the Kangaroo Valley Pioneer Village Museum.
Visiting Kangaroo Valley is a great experience, it feels like you’re back in history. The friendly locals welcomed us so much and liked to have a chat about the history of the village.
Taste local food
In addition to the historic buildings Kangaroo Valley also known for its pies. Visit the Kangaroo Valley Pie Shop and Kangaroo Valley Bakehouse to taste one of the most delicious and freshly made baked treats. Are you more into sweet? Visit Homelea Cottage (Lollies & Gifts) to taste fresh fudge.
Loving wine and cheese? Make a short drive to Upper Kangaroo River and do a wine tasting with a delicious cheese platter at Yarrawa Estate.
Outdoor activities
It’s not only the village that is worth visiting, there are also many fun things to do in the surrounding area.
Fitzroy Falls
On a 17 minute drive you’ll find the Fitzroy Falls in Morton National Park. Morton is a spectacular national park with beautiful walking tracks and is a great place for outdoor lovers. Read more about Morton National Park
Kangaroo Valley Kayaks
Rent a kayak at the Tourist Park and discover the surroundings from the water. Kayaking at he Kangaroo River is a great experience. You can hire a single kayak, double kayak or family canoe. Enjoy an adventures kajak trip over several rapids with spectacular scenery and wildlife. More information
