Botanic Gardens
Anyone who loves nature, plants and trees shouldn’t miss a walk through the Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens of Sydney may well be among the most beautiful gardens in the world. The peace and beauty of the flowers and plants offer a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Moreover, the gardens are constantly evolving and are exceptionally well maintained. Every walk through the Botanical Gardens offers a new experience, with surprising corners and inspiring views waiting to be discovered.
The Rocks
The Rocks is one of our favourite places in Sydney, where you can truly feel the city’s history. This historic area still breathes the atmosphere of old Sydney, something you can clearly sense at the Fortune of War, the city’s oldest pub. The charm of the narrow streets and the authentic buildings around the Harbour Bridge offer a glimpse into the past.
The unique architecture of the houses, with their characteristic stone facades and historic character, adds to the special atmosphere that makes The Rocks so beloved. On weekends, The Rocks Market is always held here, where you can pick up local souvenirs and unique finds. The area is also home to a variety of great restaurants and charming little shops.
Hyde Park
Just like the Botanical Gardens, Hyde Park offers a peaceful escape from the bustle of the city. It’s an oasis of greenery in the heart of Sydney, with countless trees and plants that make you forget for a moment that you’re in a major city. Hyde Park is also where the beautiful St Mary’s Cathedral and the impressive Anzac Memorial meet.
Every year on April 25, Australians and New Zealanders who died in wars and peacekeeping missions are commemorated here. The park is popular with businesspeople enjoying their lunch break, as well as locals who like to relax with a book on weekends. Street performers also regularly appear in Hyde Park, adding a wonderful vibe to this beautiful city park.
Newtown
Catch the train from Sydney’s city centre towards Newtown and immerse yourself in a vibrant neighbourhood full of vintage shops, cosy cafés, and trendy multicultural bars. Newtown has a quirky atmosphere, with Victorian buildings, striking street art, and an alternative community. It’s a hotspot for artists, foodies, and vintage lovers.
In addition, concert and theatre enthusiasts will feel right at home here, as the area is known for its lively music venues and theatres, such as the beautiful Enmore Theatre, where many famous performers have taken the stage.
Chinatown (Burwood)
For lovers of Asian cuisine, Burwood Chinatown is an absolute must-visit. From Central Station, take the train towards Burwood, and within five minutes you’ll find yourself in this vibrant food court. Not only inside, but also outside, there’s a lively street food market and a variety of Asian eateries in the surrounding streets. The selection is diverse, with dishes at different price points, from a full plate for just $15 to meat skewers around $35. At many restaurants, you can choose your portion size and price. Next to the food court, you’ll also find a cosy pub with a rooftop terrace overlooking the street food market.
Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden
One of the most beautiful hidden spots in Sydney is Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden. While the Botanical Gardens are often the first choice for tourists, this small and intimate garden in North Sydney offers a peaceful and unique experience. Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden has been carefully developed over the past 20 years by artist Wendy Whiteley, the wife of the famous Australian painter Brett Whiteley. This enchanting garden, set along the coastline, offers stunning views of the harbour and is a true oasis of calm. Spit Bridge to Manly Walk
One of the most beautiful walks around Sydney, in our opinion, is the Spit Bridge to Manly Walk. This breathtaking 10-kilometre trail takes you along the coastline and offers spectacular views of the ocean, stunning rock formations, and idyllic beaches. You’ll pass quiet bays and nature reserves, where you can enjoy Sydney’s pristine natural surroundings. The walk is especially remarkable in summer, when you might encounter various reptiles, such as large lizards and small salamanders basking in the sun. The route is perfect for nature lovers and walkers looking to soak in the peace and beauty of Sydney’s coastline.

Museum lovers will be thrilled by the brand-new Sydney Modern Project, located next to the Botanical Gardens and free to visit. Potts Point
The area around Potts Point in Sydney is a fascinating mix of two very different worlds. On one hand, there’s the vibrant, trendy Kings Cross, a neighbourhood known for its hip eateries, cosy cafés, and lively nightclubs. Over the past few years, this area has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from a once-neglected neighbourhood, once infamous for incidents and a rougher image, into a popular, stylish district where both locals and tourists love to spend time. The streets are now filled with modern bars, art galleries, and boutiques, making it an attractive destination for anyone who enjoys an energetic and creative atmosphere.

A special feature of the park is its wetlands area with mangroves, where you can discover unique flora and fauna. The park is perfect for walking, cycling, or having a picnic. So if you want to escape the crowds and enjoy a scenic walk in nature, this is the place to be.
O Bar & Dining
O Bar and Dining in Sydney is an exclusive restaurant with breathtaking views over the city. Located on the 47th floor of Australia Square, the restaurant slowly rotates, allowing you to admire the skyline and harbour from every angle while dining. The relaxed vibe of Balmain makes it a favourite destination that we’re always happy to return to.
Shelly beach
Shelly Beach, located near Manly, is a beautiful and relatively quiet beach that offers a nice change from the busy and very popular Bondi Beach. It’s an excellent spot for swimming or snorkeling, thanks to its clear and calm waters. The beach is smaller and less crowded than Bondi, making it ideal for those seeking a bit more peace and quiet. The surrounding Manly area is also great for walking, with kilometres of trails that take you along some of Sydney’s most stunning coastlines.
Wine tasting at Chateau Tanunda
A wine tasting in The Rocks is a unique way to experience Sydney. Each wine has its own character and distinct flavour, making the experience both surprising and varied. The sommelier creates a relaxed and educational atmosphere with clear explanations and a touch of humour. Because the tasting is small-scale, it feels personal and authentic. It’s the perfect activity for wine lovers who enjoy special places and want to explore Australia’s rich wine culture.
Paddy's Markets Haymarket
Paddy’s Markets Haymarket has been a well-known spot in Sydney for bargain hunters and tourists for many years. In the past, visitors mainly came for the numerous stalls selling souvenirs, cheap clothing, gifts, and local products. The market always had a lively atmosphere, centered around wandering the stalls and finding a fun memento of your trip.
In recent years, a part of the market has been revamped. A section of Paddy’s Markets has been transformed into a vibrant food court, where you can sample dishes from various world cuisines—from Asian street food and dumplings to grilled specialties. There are plenty of cosy seating areas where you can enjoy a relaxed meal or take a break. Sometimes live music is even featured, adding to the atmosphere and making the market a great place to linger.
Australian Museum
The Australian Museum is one of the most enjoyable museums in Sydney for a few hours of exploration. The museum is surprisingly diverse, consisting of several halls, each with its own theme. Here, you can learn more about dinosaurs, animals, nature, science, and Australia’s history. The exhibitions are often interactive and visually engaging, so you don’t just read, you really experience. This makes the museum interesting for both adults and children.
