Discovery Parks – Lane Cove is, in our opinion, one of the most special places to stay in Sydney. The park is set right in the heart of the lush Lane Cove National Park, giving you the real feeling of escaping the city. At the same time, Sydney’s city center is surprisingly close, just a 15-minute ride on the metro to Sydney CBD. Read on to learn more about Discovery Parks – Lane Cove and discover why it’s one of the most beautiful spots to stay in Sydney.
Deluxe tent
We stayed in a deluxe tent that had every comfort you could wish for. The accommodation featured a kitchenette, a BBQ, and a microwave. The bathroom felt almost like a hotel room, complete with a luxurious rain shower. There was also an extra bedroom with two beds, a couch, and a cozy outdoor seating area. I spent a lot of time there because it felt wonderfully private and you hardly noticed any neighbours. The tent also had two air conditioners, making it very comfortable even on hot summer days.

From the outdoor seating area, you have a view of the beautifully landscaped garden. On the right, you can see the stunning Lane Cove National Park, with the high-rises of Chatswood in the distance. Sunrise is especially magical here, as the first light filters through the trees and bathes the park in a warm glow.

Being so close to the forest also means you can spot many unique birds. They often came surprisingly close to the tent. I saw kookaburras perched nearby several times, as well as colorful rosellas flying past. Occasionally, a small group of bush turkeys would march by in a line. And many Australian Water Dragons regularly appear around the tent, adding an extra touch of wonder to your stay.

Besides the deluxe tents, the park also offers cabins, and you can stay with your own camper or tent. This mix of accommodations adds to the friendly atmosphere, as you share the space with travelers who, like you, come for peace and nature. During my stay, I saw older Australians and tourists traveling in campers, staying a few days, as well as young backpackers cooking at their tents and enjoying life outdoors. This blend of travelers gives the park a relaxed and sociable vibe.

The park also has a large outdoor pool, perfect for cooling off in summer. Scattered around the grounds are barbecue spots where you can cook together. And if you need to do laundry during your stay, there are washing machines available on-site.

Hiking in Lane Cove National Park
One of the biggest advantages of Discovery Parks Lane Cove is its location. Because it’s right next to Lane Cove National Park, you can start your hike directly from the park and immerse yourself in this stunning natural area. It’s easy to begin your walk, just turn right at the park exit, and within minutes you’re surrounded by nature. Lane Cove National Park offers a variety of beautiful hikes.
Riverside Walking Track
The Riverside Walking Track is the kind of route you instantly fall in love with. From Discovery Parks Lane Cove, you walk straight into the forest and follow the winding Lane Cove River. Birds sing all around, water dragons bask on rocks, and the scent of eucalyptus fills the air. Along the way, you’ll find peaceful bridges and picnic spots where you can stop and enjoy the view. The walk is about five kilometers one way, but you can easily turn it into a loop for a longer adventure. Read more about the Riverside Walking Track.
