From Cardwell to Wallaman Falls

The day before we drove to Wallaman Falls, we stayed in Cardwell. A quiet place along the coast. We slept at Cardwell Beachfront Motel, a cosy motel on the waterfront with friendly owners. We had the possibility to use bikes from the Motel, so we did a nice bike tour along the wonderful coast, what we didn’t want to miss.

We had a nice chat with the owner of the motel. He gave us a great tip to visit the Wallaman Falls, which is a 1.5-hour drive from Cardwell. We became very enthusiast and visited this falls the next day. Read more about Cardwell Beachfront Motel

The route

On the way from Cardwell to Wallaman Falls we drove a lot on winding roads and we had many nice stops.

We’ve made a stop in the Town of Inghams to have a dilicious breakfast with coffee. A friendly old Greek Lady helped us, which run the café by herself. It was very busy that morning, much respect for her.

With a full belly we continued our trip to Wallaman Falls. It is a pleasure to see all the amazing Australian lanscapes everytime.

It was not very busy on the road. Maybe because it was early in te morning and international tourists still not allow to visit Australia, because of covid-19.

Wildlife

We passed some locals like farmers who worked in the fields. And we saw some cows and lovely wallabies on the side of the road.

The road to the Wallaman Falls was quite narrow. During oncoming cars you had to go into the roadside, but we luckily didn’t see many cars. It was a very beautiful route, with a bit of climbing and many bends. And the road turned into an unpaved path later.

Wallaman Falls

We have seen several waterfalls during our trips we’ve made the past years. From the Niagara Falls in Canada to the Sekumpul Waterfall in Bali. Each waterfall has its own beauty. The Wallaman Falls are special to me, because it’s the highest singledrop waterfall in Australia and the landscape and surroundings are really beautiful.

If you follow the falling water from the top to the bottom you see a kind of delay in the water. Really a cool effect. The sun shone on the water and the rocks, that gave a beautiful image.

It’s not only the waterfall, the huge rocks next to falls are also impressive to see. Especially the different colors that are created by erosion are wonderful.
