First-time visitors to Australia often skip tropical Darwin in the north of Australia. Places like the east coast and cities like Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne are often high on the list. A shame if you ask me, because Darwin has so much beauty to offer. There are so many beautiful national parks and the sociability is never far away either. Did you know there is live music in Darwin almost every day? In this blog, I share my 5 favourite places in and around Darwin to grab a drink. Places you won’t miss when you visit tropical Darwin.
Darwin Ski Club
The Darwin Ski Club is a popular spot among locals. But more and more tourists are finding this nice place too. Having a drink at Darwin Ski Club is the ultimate holiday experience. When you have ordered a drink and chosen a table, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea. Enjoy sailboats bobbing on the water, people doing water sports, and walkers passing by. When the sun goes down, the view gets even more wonderful. But also the Darwin Ski Club itself, where in the evening there is a romantic atmosphere because of all the cosy lights. There are often live performances on the weekends, and in the dry season there are also regular events.
Lola’s Pergola
In the always cosy area of Cullen Bay, you will find the atmospheric Lola’s Pergola. One of Darwin’s craziest and perhaps cosiest places. Upon entering, you’ll smile at all the funny details, like an old-fashioned carousel for children. You can order drinks and food from a tastefully decorated bar and then find a nice table with a view of the Cullen Bay Marina. While it can be quieter during the day on weekdays, Lola’s Pergola can get busy at the weekend when locals kick off their weekend.
Wisdom Bar & Cafe
The Wisdom Bar & Cafe is my favourite when it comes to live music and good Australian food. Located in the bustling Mitchell Street entertainment district, Wisdom Bar & Cafe often has live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. There is a separate area for eating, where you can get the best chicken parmigiana and steak of Darwin. The plates are big, giving you a well-filled belly for a fun-filled evening of live performances. The Wisdom Bar & Cafe is the ideal place to be if you are looking for a fun night out!
Zen Rooftop Lounge Darwin
Darwin is not a place where rooftop bars abound, but they are there. You just need to know about them 🙂 For example, I recently discovered Zen Rooftop Lounge Darwin, it can be found on Carey Street. Upon entering, it looks like you’re stepping into an apartment complex, but after taking the lift to the top floor, you find yourself in a whole other world. Inside is the bar, and outside is a spacious terrace with a 360-degree view. Zen Rooftop Lounge Darwin is a cosy rooftop bar that is fun for young and old. Enjoy a delicious drink with a magnificent view over Darwin.
Beachfront Hotel
The Beachfront Hotel is located in the bustling Rapid Greek, in the northern suburbs. The Beachfront Hotel is the ideal place for a drink, but also for a good meal. At the established Smokey J’s Brew & Que, you can order some of the tastiest BBQ food in Darwin and perhaps the one you’ve ever tasted. The Brisket burnt ends are truly divine!
